Creativity, Resilience, and Hurricane Helene with Darcy Wade
How crisis brings out community and resilience when we need it most
This week on the podcast, I’m talking with artist and art therapist Darcy Wade.
Darcy first appeared on the show four years ago to talk about how art and creativity intersected with her recovery journey, and she’s back this week to talk to us about her roots in Western North Carolina and her current efforts to help folks in that region recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene, which was both unexpected and beyond anything anyone could have imagined so far inland.
We talk about how community comes together in times of crisis (even though our culture swears six ways from Sunday that we should be able to do everything ourselves); the cultural history of Western North Carolina, including Asheville; the importance of awe and wonder in our lives, and gives us an update on her own creative work.
