Acclaimed author Barbara Hambly is my guest on the podcast this week.
Barbara has written across a wide variety of genres, from fantasy to mystery, including books in the Star Trek and Star Wars series. She’s been nominated time and again for various awards, and took home the 1989 Locus Award for Best Horror Novel for Those Who Hunt the Night.
She’s also an avid martial artist, and a good chunk of our conversation focused on how the martial arts have influenced her writing, along with her unusual (and, IMO, excellent) viewpoint on the advice to “write what you know.”

PS: I’m offering writing tutoring this summer for middle- and high-school kids who are struggling and would benefit from a non-linear, creative approach. If you feel like you’re failing your child because nothing has helped their struggles with writing, we should talk. I help students find the way that works for them, making writing easier and more fun.
