Music and Mental Illness with Caroline Whiddon
Destigmatizing mental illness one orchestra at a time
On the podcast this week, I’m talking to Caroline Whiddon, who co-founded the Me2/ Orchestra with her husband, conductor Ronald Braunstein. Ronald, who had been on track to become a world renowned conductor before he was derailed by a bipolar diagnosis, wanted to start an orchestra “for people like me.”
Caroline walks us through her creative journey, how she and Ronald crossed paths, and how the Me2/ Orchestra (and its new chorus) is providing a valuable musical and social outlet for people with mental illness and those who support them. She also tells us how the documentary about Me2/, Orchestrating Change, came to be.
