On the podcast this week, I’m bringing you my favorite interview of 2023, with Kate Powers of the Redeeming Time Project.
I stumbled on Kate online, and am so glad I did. As soon as I saw that she directed Shakespeare in maximum security prisons through Rehabilitation Through the Arts, I knew I had to talk to her. The result is one of the most profoundly moving and awe-inspiring conversations I’ve ever had. I got goosebumps during the interview, again when I edited it, and honestly… I’ve got ‘em just thinking about it again right now.
If you’re not a Shakespeare fan, you’ll find this conversation especially interesting. If you don’t understand the value of theater programs in prisons, you’ll definitely learn something here. If you’ve ever wondered why folks in prison “get” to have arts programs, I challenge you to listen to this entire episode and see what you think by the end.
At the very least, I guarantee you’ll learn something—and I hope you’ll share your thoughts with us in a comment below, and maybe even throw a few dollars toward these programs, which will make provide such an incredible return on your investment.
Listen on your favorite podcast app or at YouTube. (YouTube takes a little while to process, so if you don’t see it yet, it’ll be there soon!)
If you enjoyed the episode, I hope you’ll share it with a friend!
