I’ve been posting short videos on TikTok and YouTube for the last few weeks—little daily reminders to help folks remember that it’s important to fit something creative into their day.
I wasn’t sure these videos would resonate with folks, but so far, there’s been a pretty good response, so I’ll keep going as long as there’s interest. (If you could use short daily reminders, you can subscribe here.)
I wanted to share the two I posted this weekend, because they’re worth thinking about—and I hope you’ll share your answers to one or both in a comment.
Here’s the first:
And here’s the second:
My creative dreams have always included writing, acting, and singing. New ones crop up here and there, but those are the big ones for me.
I’ve done them to varying degrees—I have an MFA in writing, but I’ve only done sporadic acting and improv, though I love them dearly. And I’ve been a choral singer since I was a kid, though watching/listening to someone like Annie Lennox or Ella Fitzgerald turns me a wide range of greens with envy.
Lately I’ve been idly wondering about some sort of drama/improv project—maybe in the form of a podcast, maybe something else—but I’m not sure exactly what it would be yet or how it might work, or if/how much it might involve other people, so those factors may or may not be getting in my way.
How about you? I’d love to hear your creative dreams, even if they go way back to when you were little, and what’s stopping you. Don’t be afraid to post the second—I strongly suspect that we’ll all see ourselves in the things we share. It’s totally normal to have an obstacle in our way, and also crazy normal to think we’re the only ones who have that weird block… even though that’s rarely, if ever, true.
Are you posting these short ones on apple podcasts? That's where I mostly listen to you.
