As I mentioned recently, I’ve been posting daily creativity reminders/tips on YouTube and TikTok over the last month, and I’m starting to notice something.
I’m getting comments over there from women (so far) who are just too exhausted to create—for some the problem is their job, or it’s trying to take care of small kids on top of the job, or it’s depression. And, even if the comment is short, it always carries a sense of loss, frustration, or really deep sadness.
Obviously, I can’t let that stand without some sort of action on my part beyond a reply, either in text or in a video. Especially not when this is at least starting to look like a larger issue that could be affecting a LOT of people, who largely never say anything about it, because, well… what’s anyone gonna do?
I know I can help, but in order to do it right, I need to make sure I understand as much about what’s happening as possible.
If I am in any way describing you, even if you think your situation is different or weird or uniquely difficult; if you’re not a woman; if you’re not sure you quite fit what I’m talking about…
…please leave a comment below and tell me what’s going on. If you’re reading this in your email, you can also hit reply if you’d rather, and if you’re reading this in the Substack app, feel free to send me a DM!
If you know someone who fits this description, please share this post with them.
Thanks so much!
Me me me! Honestly I think I'm mostly exhausted from trying to bear the weight of what is happening in the world. I'm worried about my kids. I'm worried about my old age, since it feels like what little safety net we had is being torn to shreds. The only thing that brings me joy is working in the garden - thank goodness it's summer! I have all these ideas about garden art, but no energy to execute. Thanks for tackling this one!
