Nancy - I appreciate the message in your posting. I notice that my failures to act are usually based on some version of fear of looking bad socially. How much would be possible if I was willing to look ackward or hear someone else say 'no'??
Thanks, Monica! I’m not sure if you’re looking for an answer here or just thinking out loud, but for what it’s worth, I suspect a lot more would be possible for most of us if we ignored that stuff. It’s hard, though! Social pressure is a real thing! But I suspect asking yourself how much you’ll regret not doing the thing later is still a useful yardstick when we’re in those situations, and may help us throw off that social pressure a little more easily.
It's like the compass pointing true north! And it can be amazing how quickly we shove that feeling down--both because it's "bad" to feel envy, and because dealing with the truth we're receiving can seem too difficult. I'm glad you recognize it in yourself!

Your observation about pangs of envy as an indicator is so true! For me, anyway!

Your essay is a great reminder to use that envy as a motivator, not to feel bad.
That's the trick! I'm glad it helps. 😄
