Looking forward to listening! Though I'm concerned you might convince me to be happy, because I was taught in church as a boy that happy people are just asking for it from a God that wants us all to feel the depth of our darkness all the time until we die and can THEN be happy in heaven. Careful, you might jostle all my church trauma! šŸ˜‚

Oh, Kelly... I needed that laugh! Though, it does occur to me, in all seriousness, that that sort of church is probably part of why we have this bizarre inability to let ourselves be happy for more than a few minutes (if that) at a time...

I'm with you, I was definitely only half joking. Evacuation theology is a tragic worldview.

I'm not sure I've ever heard it called that before--I had to look it up--but yes, I agree. I'd never thought about it until I was in Ireland and the father of the family I was living with, who had been Catholic and then Church of Ireland before becoming an atheist, started talking about how tragic it is to miss all the beauty that happens here because you're so busy worried about what's next instead. It was a good point!

And I'm sure you'll be just shocked to hear that I generally am opposed to anything that uses guilt or shame to motivate people, too! ;)
