I've collected a number of too-beautiful journals over the years. Lately I've been grabbing the pretty but never more than $5 journals at Ross, Home Goods, or Marshall's. Some are lined, some are blank. But none of them feel too pristine to use. Different covers is also super helpful for me as I normally have 3 going at a time - professional ideas, art journalling, notes for therapy.
I've also been really enjoying the Goodnotes app on my ipad. You can create different notebooks (lined, grid, blank, portrait, landscape) within the app and if you have a stylus pen, you can write in your own handwriting. Chef's kiss!
That works, too! The recycling piece is HUGE for me with this. Those old gratitude journals I recycled didn't mean a damn thing to me anymore, but throwing them in the trash just wasn't the right thing. Spirals are a little more of a pain in the butt then comp books, but they both beat the heck out of cutting pages out of a journal to recycle them! (Which may just be my own little but of chaos, I know!)
I collect them too! I especially love the purple composition books. Target has them in many colors. May favorite price was .25 cents, but those days, I believe are long gone!
So glad I'm not alone! The plain cardboard ones are 50 cents at Walmart right now. All of the ones in the photo were less than $3. You can't beat that for a journal, especially for one that frees you up to write whatever you need to write.
I use these every day for writing and drawing. I have a pile of them I got for 50 cents. And a cheap pen!
Aren't they the best? I never expected to be such a fan, but here I am!

Glad to hear I'm not alone! I sometimes have more than one going, too, so I hear you there, for sure!
I wasn't aware of Goodnotes, but I'll check it out! Thanks!
I use my kids' old spirals from high school - most of them were only 1/4 - 1/2 full. I recycled their pages and use the rest for ME. :)
